Apartment Living in Florida

While the nickname for Florida is "The Sunshine State," many would be surprised to hear that this sunny state has the highest average precipitation of any state in America. The sudden afternoon thunderstorms and lightning strikes have even earned central Florida the title, the "lightening capital" of the U.S. This weather tidbit will never convince the hundreds of thousand tourists and residents to bring their umbrellas as they escape to the state's sandy shores for relaxation and ocean fun.

Florida has a sunny disposition all around. The state's economic growth is flourishing and it has the fourth largest population in the states. Florida has always been one of the fastest growing states in the union and developers have built plenty of apartments to accommodate these new sun-seekers. Whether they're snowbirds or young professionals heading south to enjoy the state's urban lifestyle and rising employment opportunities, newcomers will find the apartment that suits their needs.

Tourism is Florida's major source of income. Visitors spend billions of dollars each year visiting extraordinary sites like Disney World, Kennedy Space Center, Busch Gardens, the Everglades and any one of its beach communities along Florida's 1,350 miles of shoreline. The majority of Floridians usually live in the urban areas of the cities scattered along the coastlines. You can easily find an apartment in any of Florida's big cities -- Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa, St. Petersburg and Orlando.

Jacksonville Apartments

Named after Andrew Jackson and referred to by locals as "Jax", the northern city of Jacksonville is the largest city in land area in the U.S. Over a million residents have made the greater Jacksonville Metropolitan their home. Located on the St. John's River, Jacksonville is a busy seaport and once dubbed the "First Coast". To many, this city is the best-kept secret of the state as many rush to the more popular cities farther south. Today Jacksonville's modern skyline sparkles with corporate towers and condos. Apartments are available and very affordable.

Miami Apartments

This metropolitan city is influenced by the Latin-American cultures and is reflected in the cuisine, architecture, music, art and festivals. Miami is a global city for its role in finance, commerce, media, arts and international trade. The city has a reputation for its lavish housing and apartments. You can rent an apartment for $600, but to enjoy the highlife and the best nightlife that Miami has to offer, look to spend over a $1,000.

Tampa & St. Petersburg Apartments

Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater make up the second largest metropolitan statistical area of nearly three million residents in the state. The greater Tampa Bay area, which includes Sarasota, has just over four million residents. Despite this large population, Yahoo Real Estate ranked Tampa the 8th cleanest city in the U.S. in 2008. You won't want to hide out in your apartment for long because this city was also recognized and awarded the title of "5th Best Outdoor City" by Forbes.

Orlando Apartments

More than 35 million tourists visit Orlando every year and while it is a given that sightseers will continue to grow, the metro area is also becoming one of the fastest-developing areas in the nation. Downtown Orlando is reporting a transformation with a need for more residential apartments and commercial towers. Depending on location and amenities, apartments rent from $500 to $2000 for the more stylish lofts and townhouses.
